Underwater storage tankage for oil comprises a submerged tank 9 in communication with the surrounding water at the base divided into a number of separate compartments 9a and a mooring 1 around which the tank can move when submerged, buoyancy control by the introduction of gas into the top of the compartments 9a through pipe 24 and gas inlets 23, and an interfacial blanket 15 in each compartment 9a to separate the oil from the water above which it is stored. The oil enters the compartments via pipe line 19. flexible oil line 20, pipe 22, oil parts 21 and distributors 18. Another interfacial blanket maintains separate the gas and the oil.
