Abstract

1280312 Raising sunken objects and trim adjustment J BASSET 22 July 1969 [25 April 1969 19 June 1969] 36747/69 Headings B7M and B7S A method of refloating sunken craft and buoys comprises chemically generating a mass of gases directly within a chamber which has a watertight upper part and is open downwardly. The chamber is part of the object to be refloated or is rigidly attached to the object. In the buoy shown upper part 4a is watertight and fluidtight enclosure 9 in lower part 4a is filled with a charge 8 which on priming releases combustion gases through covers 7 to force sea water out through openings 11 and 13 thus creating buoyancy. The method may also be applied to the water ballast tanks of a submarine to adjust its trim.
