Abstract

1,113,984. Unwinding yarns from packages. ERNEST SCRAGG & SONS Ltd. 13 April, 1965 [23 April, 1964], No. 16782/64. Heading D1J. As yarn is unwound overend of a yarn package it passes across yarn deflecting means in the form of a rim from which the yarn is spaced by a current of air or other fluid. In Fig. 1 the hollow rim 14 is rigid with a rotating axis 25, said rotation causing air to be drawn into the rim at 27 near the polar axis and to be ejected at its periphery 14. Fig. 2 (not shown) illustrates a modified construction in which the hollow rim has blades 31 therein for causing, on rotation of the rim, an air draught outwardly of said rim. The yarn may be urged around the rim by said air current. The air passage in the hollow rim may taper towards the periphery, the taper being such that the area of circumferentially extending section through the taper is the same for all radii of the taper.
