Abstract

1,112,452. Container closures. METAL CONTAINERS Ltd. 17 Feb., 1967 [25 Feb., 1966], No. 8424/66. Heading B8T. A closure 10 for a pail-type shipping container has a central disc 11 surrounded by a peripheral groove 12-14 of rectangular cross-section with depending lugs 16 around the outer edge for crimping under the flanged mouth of the container, the lugs 16 being positioned radially outwards of the outer groove wall 14 to form shoulders 18 which facilitate stacking of one closure upon another. As shown, the shoulder 18 of the upper closure stacked upon a similar closure engages the upper, outer, corner of the peripheral groove. A sealing gasket may fill the groove 12-14.
