Abstract

A crystalline substance "Cofactor U", having the structure: <FORM:1111871/C2/1> and showing anti-kininase and non-specific resistance activity in vivo, is obtained by hydrolysis (e.g. with acid at 80-120 DEG C.) and subsequent working up steps of fluorescent polypeptides having the same physiological properties which are derived from animal glands, zymosan and ginsenga roots by the processes disclosed in Specifications 104,184 and 104,185. The pure substance may be produced from the crude hydrolysate by adsorption on charcoal and elution therefrom with 90% aqueous phenol followed by a working up process involving chromatography and adsorption and elution on ion-exchange materials.ALSO:Pharmaceutical compositions e.g. for injection and which have anti-kinnase and non-specific resistance activity comprise a carrier and "Co-factor-U" of the formula: <FORM:1111871/A5-A6/1> which is obtained by hydrolysis of fluorescent polypeptides having the same physiological activity and derived from animal glands, zymosan and ginsenga roots (see Div. C2).
