After a predetermined number of biscuits has been delivered from the bottom of a shoot 1 (Fig. 2), by flights 5, the spacing between the flights and the bottom biscuit is altered to interrupt delivery. In one form, a follower roller 14 controlling the position of each flight as it passes under the magazine 1 is deflected from a cam surface 22 which permits it to deliver biscuits, to an alternative surface 30 which results in no delivery. The movement of the follower 14 is effected by a bell-crank 25, 26 operated by a solenoid 28, and the follower and flight are held in their deflected position by a toggle link 17. Interruption of delivery, at the proper count, is effected by one of several cams operating control switches and selected by manuallyoperated switches. Delivery is also interrupted if the biscuits in the magazine fall below a predetermined level, and the device detecting this preferably operates at a curved portion of the magazine where the slope of the biscuits depends on the rate at which they are supplied. In an alternative arrangement (Fig. 3, not shown), the path of the flights 5 is fixed, and either the magazine 1, or the base of the magazine, is moved, under the control of solenoid 28, to clear the path of the flights when the count is complete. The biscuits may be delivered directly to a horizontal conveyer (9), (Fig. 1, not shown), or may be carried by steps (75), (Fig. 4, not shown), on a rotor carrying the flights 5 to a conveyer 77 where they are arranged in horizontal stacks. A check-weigher may automatically vary the number of biscuits counted into each batch.
