Abstract
Methacrylic acid esters are prepared by reacting allene with carbon monoxide and a saturated aliphatic monohydric alcohol, at a temperature from 100 DEG to 250 DEG C. and a pressure in the range from 50 to 100 atmospheres in the presence of nickel carbonyl and water. The alcohol is preferably a C1-C12 alcohol and examples describe the preparation of methyl methacrylate.
