Abstract

1,110,116. Fire-proofing cellulosic material. COURTAULDS Ltd. 20 Aug., 1965 [21 Aug., 1964], No. 34227/64. Heading DIP. Cellulosic textile material is fire-proofed by impregnating with a non-volatile inorganic acid, cyanamide or dicyanodiamide, and a chlorinated C 1-4 alkyl phosphate from aqueous solution, drying- and heating at 100-150‹C to effect reaction between the cellulose and the impregnants. The acid may be phosphorous, phosphoric, pyrophosphoric, sulphuric, or sulphamic acid. It may be partially neutralised. The phosphate may be chlorinated ethyl phosphate containing a major proportion of bis-#-chloroethyl phosphate. The impregnants may be applied separately or together. The amounts of acid, cyanamide and phosphate impregnated may be at least 5, 10 and 10 gm respectively per 100 gm of material. The liquid pick-up may be 100%. The material may be of cotton, linen, or regenerated cellulose.
