Abstract

1,110,000. Washing gantries for cars. H. WUSTER. 5 Oct., 1965 [19 Aug., 1965], No. 42305/65. Heading B7J. [Also in Division F4] A movable or stationary car-washing gantry 1 comprises spray nozzles 4 for washing water and/or detergent solution, and at least one wide air-drying nozzle 5 supplied with air by a blower 7 driven by an electric motor 8, the nozzle 5 being supported on the car by rollers 10 or slides, wherein the nozzle 5, the pipe 6, the blower 7 and the motor 8 form a unit pivoted on the axis 9 so that the nozzle 5 can follow the car profile. In another embodiment, two separate air nozzles are pivoted side-by-side and individually supported by rollers. In a further embodiment, the unit is mounted in a hollow cross-head of the gantry, and a U-bend is provided in the air pipe 6. In yet another embodiment, the unit is slidably mounted in vertical tracks on the posts of the frame. In still a further embodiment, a throttled air blast is directed from the nozzles on to the car surface during shampooing with detergent solution to produce turbulence in the solution and hence to promote loosening of dirt.
