1,199,042. Phosphoric acid. ISRAEL MINING INDUSTRIES, INSTITUTE FOR RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT. 1 Aug., 1967 [2 Aug., 1966], No. 16289/69. Heading C1A. Phosphoric acid, obtained by the sulphuric acid acidification of phosphate rock, is purified by extracting with a solvent as defined in Claim 1 of 1,112,033 at a temperature low enough for the formation of a homogeneous extract phase distinct from a residual aqueous phase, separating the phosphoric-acid-containing extract from the residual phosphoric acid, adding water to the extract phase in an amount of from 3-20% by weight to obtain stratification, and separating the lower phase, which is an aqueous solution containing at least 35% by weight purified phosphoric acid. A controlled amount of heat is preferably supplied to keep the temperature of the extract constant while water is being added. The water may be added in one stage, or in two or more stages, the first of which may be a small amount of water to produce a fraction comprising most of the impurities in the extract, which fraction is removed, and, in a further stage or stages, the remainder of the required amount of water is added. The first stage may also consist of a' counter-current wash with water or an aqueous phosphoric acid solution. 0À1-5À0% (by wt.) of sulphuric acid may be added to the original impure acid before contact with the solvent. The residue left after the initial extraction may be acidified by the addition of 30-100% by weight of sulphuric acid, and this solution submitted to the process.
