Abstract

1,198,083. Polyamide filaments. E.I. DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO. 13 June, 1967 [13 June, 1966], No. 56374/69. Divided out of 1,198,081. Heading B5B. [Also in Divisions B2 and C3] Copolymers of at least 80 mol per cent pbenzamide units and up to 20% of units from another aminocarboxylic acid or substantially equimolar amounts of a diamine and a dicarboxylic or disulphonic acid are characterized by having an inherant viscosity in H 2 SO 4 at 30‹ C. of at least 0.5. Polymers with this characteristic may be obtained by the process of Specification 1,198,082 and are stated to be advantageous for film or fibre formation, it being possible to obtain fibres with an orientation angle up to 35 degrees and an initial modulus above 200 g.p.d. The Specification also describes spinning dopes of the polymers, e.g. in a tetramethyl urea solution of LiCi, and the wet and dry spinning and after-treatment of fibres therefrom. The spinning dopes may also be used as coating compositions for the same substrates as specified in the parent Specification 1,198,081. The disclosures of Specification 1,008,854 and 901,159 are acknowledged.
