Abstract

[Also in Divisions G1 and G2] In response to an analogue value, one of the light sources 2 is illuminated; its light is fed via optic fibres 4 (only some shown) to elements 3 (only one shown) of a matrix display C, thus delineating a numeral corresponding to the analogue value. As described, according to the magnitude of the input signal an appropriate one of ten light sources 2 is energized, and a number of optic fibres 4 connected to that source cause the corresponding Arabic numeral to be displayed (see also Fig. 2 (not shown). (Element 3 in Fig. 3 is illuminated whenever numerals " 4," " 5 " or " 7" are displayed.) Alternatively, Fig. 5 (not shown), there may be a single light source (7) obturated by a punched card (5), thus providing a digital-to-Arabic converter. This is stated to have an application in the teaching-machine field. Fig. 6 illustrates an application to meteorology: perforations 11 on a hollow drum 8 carried on the shaft 9 of a micrometer provide an Arabic readout of the linear measurement.
