Abstract

1,194,743. Internal shoe drum brakes. DEUTSCHE PERROT-BREMSE G.m.b.H. 21 Nov., 1967 [23 Nov., 1966; 21 April, 1967], No. 52988/67. Headings F2E and F2F. A brake comprises at least two pairs of shoes disposed axially side by side in a brake drum, the ends of axially adjacent shoes being connected by pressure members 25, 25<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 6, which respectively bear on adjacent shoes, an expander 13 being disposed between the pressure members 25, 25<SP>1</SP> of opposed shoes, rollers 27, 27<SP>1</SP> being interposed between the expander 13 and the pressure members 25, 25<SP>1</SP>, each roller being rotatably connected to a laterally hinged radius rod 24, 24<SP>1</SP>, the pressure members 25, 25<SP>1</SP> being axially displaceable relative to the brake shoes. This ensures that when the expander 13 moves in a direction parallel to the brake drum axis, no axial movement will be transmitted to the brake shoes 3 ... 6. As shown in Fig. 6, the pressure members 25, 25<SP>1</SP> are coupled to the shoes 3 . . . 6 via balls 42 located in recesses in the pressure members 25, 25<SP>1</SP> and in intermediate members 43. The balls 42 are retained by a spring clip 46. Intermediate members 43 engage shoe ends 44 by sliding contact surfaces 45. In Fig. 3 (not shown) members 42, 43 are replaced by hemispherically ended cylinders. Mounting brake shoes.-The shoes 4, 6 (Fig. 4) are located axially by springs 7 bearing against a lipped plate 2 secured to backing member 1. Further spring (Fig. 5, not shown) hold shoes 4, 6 in axial frictional contact. Return springs (Fig. 1, not shown) are fitted to the non- actuated ends of opposite shoes and between the actuated ends and the backing member 1. Fluid pressure control of brakes.-As shown in Fig. 2, hydraulic fluid enters port 33 and displaces a piston 31 against the force of a spring 30. This action forces hydraulic fluid through ports 34, 17 so as to displace piston 18 to the right against the force of spring 20, thus displacing expander 13 (Fig. 6) downwards. A tube 37 located in the end of cylinder 16 co-operates with a valve 32 so as to provide automatic slack adjustment.
