Abstract

1,193,390. Rolling tubes. MANNESMANN A.G. 5 Aug., 1968 [3 Aug., 1967; 11 Aug., 1967], No. 37207/68. Heading B3M. A steel tube having longitudinal external fins is produced by the grooved rolls 13, 14 of a pilgrim rolling mill, the rolls firstly reducing the wall thickness of a tubular bloom 12, while initially forming fins 15 (Fig. 1), and then bring- ing the fins to their final dimensions without altering the tube wall thickness (Figs. 2, 3). A wholly or partly tapered mandrel 17 is used in conjunction with the rolls, the relationship at any moment between the diameter of the mandrel and the corresponding diameter of the roll pass determining the wall thickness of the tube.
