Abstract

1,226,504. Rolling tubes. MANNESMANNROHREN-WERKE G.m.b.H. 29 Jan., 1969 [1 Feb., 1968], No. 4963/69. Heading B3M. In a process for rolling a tube from a pierced billet in a continuous mill, the speeds of the individual stands of the mill are modified as the leading end of the billet enters the stands and/or as the trailing end leaves the stands. As the leading end enters stand b 2 or a following stand, the speed of the other stand or stands in which the billet is present is reduced by a fraction of the speed by which a mandrel 2 in the billet increases. Alternatively, or additionally, the speeds of the stand or stands in which the billet is still present is reduced as the billet leaves the preceding stands. The difference in speed of any stand is calculated by multiplying the change in speed of the mandrel by a function of the coefficients of friction between the mandrel and billet, and between the billet and rolls.
