Abstract

1,192,645. Vehicle couplings. A. L. MAFFEY 2 Jan., 1969 [3 Oct., 1967], No. 45037/67. Heading B7T. [Also in Division G1] A system for measuring the distance travelled by an agricultural tractor comprising framework supporting a ground-engaging measuring wheel 19 and a counter 27 responsive to revolution of the wheel 19 so as to provide a visual indication of the distance travelled thereby, arranged with the framework attached to the front part of the tractor so that the visual indication is at a position readily visible to a person in the driving seat of the tractor. A T-piece with a stem 17 is pivoted about a horizontal axis in a bracket 1 clamped to the front axle of the tractor and the stem 17 swivels in the front portion of a frame 18 which has at its rear lower corner a bearing block to receive the stub axle 24 of the wheel 19. When not in use the wheel 19 can be raised off the ground by means of a chain that can be pulled through a pedal near the driving seat. A scale is provided showing the distance to be travelled by the tractor for an appliance pulled thereby to cover an acre as a function of the width of the appliance.
