Abstract

1,192,265. Wrap-around cartons. OLINKRAFT Inc. 19 Feb., 1968 [27 Feb., 1967], No. 8004/68. Heading B8C. A blank for a wrap-around article carrier has a tongue-in-slot locking device of the kind in which an edge adjacent a tongue is engaged by a locking edge of a slot and wherein the slot has a plurality of locking edges at different distances from the fold line of the wrapper panel in which it is formed, thus allowing more than one size of the wrapper perimeter to accommodate oversized articles. Two slots 13, 14, Fig. 1, are provided, each comprising adjacent locking edges, 16, 18, 17, 19. When edges 16, 17 are in use in the locking arrangement the tongues or tabs 28, 32 are flush against the inside of the slotted panel 11, while the remainder of tongue panel 12 is outside, Fig. 3 (an interior view of Fig. 2). When the blank is wrapped around oversized articles the perimeter is increased by a distance B, the tabs 28, 32 being doubled back on themsev automatically during engagement of the lock to lie between margins 11, 12, allowing tabs 29, 31 to engage the edges 18, 19 resp., Fig. 4 (also an interior view of Fig. 2). Additional tongue and slot connections 21, 22, 36, 37 having no provision for two lock positions are also provided, as shown in Figs. 3, 4 in which tongues 22 have been omitted for clarity, these do not lock positively when the small-perimeter lock, Fig. 3, is in use.
