Abstract
1,191,777. Making inductors; jointing. TRW Inc. 28 Nov., 1968 [12 Dec., 1967], No. 56613/68. Headings B3A and B3V. [Also in Division H1] An inductive device is made by winding a coil (17, Fig. 1, not shown) on a flanged magnetic bobbin (10), inserting the bobbin in a (cylinldrical) magnetic casing, and then expanding the bobbin radially towards the casing-e.g. by driving wedges 34 (and 33, Fig. 2, not shown) simultaneously into the top and bottom ends of a slot 14 in the bobbin. The bobbin may be expanded until one or both flanges 13 are forced into contact with the casing; or its reluctance may be measured and the expansion stopped when it reaches a desired value. Layers of insulating material may be provided on the peripheries of the flanges to limit the expansion and determine the gap. Specification 1,191,776 is referred to.
