Abstract

1,189,880. Treating tobacco. EASTMAN KODAK CO. 4 Aug., 1967 [5 Aug., 1966], No. 35946/67. Heading A2C. The polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbon content of tobacco smoke is reduced by treatment of the tobacco leaf material that is to be smoked with from 2 to 10% by weight thereof of at least one metal salt of chloric acid. The preferred salts are those of the alkali and alakline earth metals, but other groups of metals are also specified. The salt may be applied as an aqueous solution to the tobacco which is subsequently dried, or it may be applied as a finely divided solid material.
