Abstract

1,188,125. Forming articles by spraying. VITAFOAM Ltd. 24 April, 1967 [27 May, 1966; 13 July, 1966], Nos. 24025/66 and 31369/66. Heading B5A. Shaped sheets of plastics material are made in apparatus comprising an endless conveyer system with at least one spray head for dispensing uncured plastics material, means for locating an open former on the conveyer to receive the plastics material, a station where the plastics material is gelled or cured, a cooling station and a stripping station where the article is removed from the former before the former is returned to the coating station for re-use. The spraying station (14) may comprise several adjustable heads with a plurality of nozzles. As described the sprayed formers pass into a drying tunnel (15) with infra-red heaters and a temperature stabilization station 16 heated by warm air. The articles are cooled by spraying with cold water in tunnel (17) and are removed from the former at stripping station 18, the former preferably being heated before it is returned to the spraying station. An inset may be included in the article by spraying a first plastics layer, placing the insert on the layer, and covering the insert with a second layer from a second spray head. The articles formed may be used in upholstered furniture and vehicle padding or panelling. The article may be formed from P.V.C.
