1,187,169. Diving chambers. O. H. DRAGER [trading as DRAGERWERK, HEINR. & BERNH. DRAGER]. 16 Sept., 1968 [16 Sept., 1967], No. 43996/68. Heading E1H. An underwater chamber 1 has a downwardly opening diver's-exit-shaft 8 communicating with the interior 5, 6 of the chamber, the water level 10 in the shaft being maintained at a desired level by a variable volume gas space 3, outside the shaft but on the same level, pressurised by the ambient water. The gas space may be contained either within an enclosure which is flexible at least in part, or in an open bottom rigid chamber, the ambient water forming the bottom of the gas space. The chamber 1 may be suspended and have a vertical axis of symmetry, the gas space 3 being annular and surrounding the exit shaft 8.
