Abstract

1,212,122. Submersible tankers. A. HAYAMA. 8 May, 1968 [15 May, 1967], No. 21819/68. Headings B7A, B7M and B7S. A tanker comprises a hull 9 having at least one enclosed region such as region 2, subdivided into upper and lower compartments of variable volume by means of a flexible membrane 1 secured to opposite sides of the hull, the lower compartment being a cargo compartment 14 and the upper being a ballast compartment 15, having openings 5 in the walls, the flexible membrane on admission of cargo into the lower compartment being displaced upwardly to expel water from the ballast compartment and to close the openings 5. The embodiment described is submersible.
