Abstract
1,187,024. Magnesium and zinc peroxides. LAPORTE CHEMICALS Ltd. 15 May, 1967 [27 May, 1966], No. 23806/66. Heading C1A. Magnesium or zinc peroxide is produced by reacting particulate basic magnesium or zinc carbonate with aqueous hydrogen peroxide of at least 10% w/w concentration, and removing water from the peroxide formed. The quantity of H2O2 is preferably at least equal in weight calculated as 100% H2O2 to the weight of magnesium or zinc calculated as Mg or Zn present in the basic carbonate. The reaction temperature may be maintained from 30‹ to 300‹ C. and is preferably held until the peroxide formed has dried to constant weight. A purified basic carbonate with a bulk density of less than 0À3 g/cc. and containing less than 40 p.p.m. Fe and/or Cl gives rise to a product having an Fe and/or Cl content of less than 100 p.p.m. and a concentration of peroxide of at least 50% w/w of a bulk density of not greater than 0À4 g/cc.
