Abstract

1,186,948. Removing diolefins from oils. ESSO RESEARCH & ENG. CO 5 June, 1968, No. 26814/68. Heading C5E. A process for treating a steam cracked naphtha feedstock containing mono-olefins, diolefins and thiophenes comprises contacting in a tower zone a slurry of said steam cracked naphtha and a silica alumina cracking catalyst thereby polymerizing substantially all of the said diolefins and at. least a portion of the said mono-olefins,. removing contacted naphtha from one end of said tower zone, removing said silica alumina catalyst and polymer from the' other end of said tower zone, passing said polymer and said catalyst into a catalytic cracking zone and passing said contacted naphtha to a catalytic hydrofining zone. The hydrofining catalyst may be cobalt oxidemolybdenum oxide on alumina or bauxite. The hydrofining step may be followed by solvent extraction e.g. with triethylene glycol.
