Abstract
1,186,609. Catalytic apparatus. GULF RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT CO. 8 Nov., 1967 [9 Nov., 1966], No. 50817/67. Heading B1F. [Also in Division C5] Catalytic reactions are carried out by dividing a charge reactant stream into a plurality of parts, and feeding each part to each of a plurality of tubular reactors arranged in parallel and each immersed in a bath of heat exchange fluid maintained under pressure, a catalyst stream being charged to each of said tubular reactors at substantially the intermediate position therein closest to the inlet end at which said reactant is preheated to reaction temperature. The process is illustrated by the oligomerisation of ethylene, each of two tubular reactors being of the type shown below. As shown, the catalyst enters via tube 32 at point 22 of the tubular reactor, so that pipe 24 is a preheat section and pipe 26, which is a continuation of pipe 24, is the reaction section.
