Abstract

1,184,871. Polymer compositions. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 12 March, 1968 [30 March, 1967; 1 May, 1967], Nos. 5909/68 and 5911/68. Divided out of 1,183,722. Heading C3P. Compositions comprise a 4-methylpentene-1 polymer and a toughening addition of at least one linear aliphatic hydrocarbon having a boiling point above the melting point of the polymer and containing less than 22 carbon atoms. Specified hydrocarbons are tetradecane, pentadecane, hexadecane and preferably octadecane. The polymer may be a copolymer with a linear 1-olefin, e.g. pentene-1, hexene-1, octene-1 or decene-1, and is preferably prepared with a catalyst comprising titanium trichloride, an aluminium alkyl and a compound containing a CO, HCO, OH or COOH group or sulphur analogue thereof. Examples describe compositions comprising 4-methylpentene- 1/hexene-1 copolymers, octadecane and pentaerythrityl tetra #-(3,5-di-t.-butyl-4-hydroxyphenyl) propionate.
