Abstract

1,184,740. Display apparatus. HEALEY DEVELOPMENTS (1898) Ltd. 20 Feb., 1967 [21 Feb., 1966], No. 7439/66. Heading G5C. [Also in Division G2] To improve contrast between areas of a viewing surface V illuminated by an incandescent white electric light source S and areas not illuminated, a light filter F is mounted between an observer and the surface V but such that it does not intercept light passing from the source S to the surface. The filter has substantially uniform light transmission in the range of 0À4 to 0.7 microns wave length of at least 60%. A type of apparatus for throwing light on a viewing surface which may be fitted with such a filter has a rotary disc D arranged between the source S and an opaque curved surface V, the display being seen by reflection. Alternatively (Fig. 4, not shown) the display is projected through a translucent screen.
