Abstract

[Also in Divisions B7 and E1] A profiled strip for mounting on motor vehicle bodies comprises a carrier having a protective coating'of rubber or plastics material surrounding the carrier, part of the coating on one face of the carrier being removable by hand and being defined by weakened areas in the coating, e.g. by indentations, forming tear lines. The carrier is perforated in these areas where the plastics material is not to be removed so that the plastics material is anchored in the perforation. Several forms of moulding are described including a skirting strip, a decorative moulding, a foot board moulding, a base moulding, an I-shaped moulding for use as a window cross-bar, mouldings used for sealing and guiding slidable window panes. The carrier may be of metal e.g. steel or may have a bright metal coating. In Fig. 3, skirting moulding comprises a carrier 1 covered with an outer layer 2 and an inner layer 3, toes 4 and an enlarged portion 5. The outer covering 2 is provided with tear lines X consisting of indentations in the plastics material. The carrier is provided with perforations 8 so that the covering is firmly anchored in the carrier. The moulding is secured to a carrying wall by, e.g. screws which engage the moulding from the rear. The carrier is formed with inwardly curved portions 11 to stiffen the carrier and to accommodate the enlarged portion 5. In Fig. 4, a decorative strip to be secured from the inside comprises removable covering portions 2a, 2b, 2c provided on sections 1a 1b and 1c of the carrier. Enlarged portions 10 of the covering are provided so that when the removable portions are removed the remaining covering has neatly closed edges. In other embodiments, (Fig. 6, not shown), overlays are heat sealed to the enlarged portions and differ in colour from the remaining portions of the covering; (Fig. 8, not shown), the enlarged portions are formed with recesses for receiving a filler.
