1396111 Trimstrip STANDARD PRODUCTS CO 27 June 1972 [22 June 1971] 29964/72 Heading B6G A trimstrip comprises as shown in Fig. 1 an elongated body portion 12 and a projection 30 of plastics material for interengagement with a complementary recess in an underlying support, the projection including a laterally extending portion 32 spaced from and interconnected with the inner surface 16 of the body portion by a laterally narrower connecting portion 34, the plastics material of at least the laterally extending portion of the projection having a Durometer hardness greater than that of the plastics material of the body portion. Preferably the body portion and connecting portion are integral and the laterally extending portion is a separate component joined to the connecting portion, e.g. by heat sealing. Preferably a stabilizing means, e.g. wire strand 28 is embedded in the body portion to prevent longitudinal movement as a result of longitudinal shrinkage of the plastics material of the body portion. The outer surface of the body portion may be decorated by a thin transparent film 18 of polyvinyl terephthalate having metallized coating 20. The metallized film may be applied to the outer surface by adhesive bonding or heat sealing. Alternatively the outer surface may be decorated with a layer of metal foil or a preprinted film, e.g. having a wood grained appearance. As shown in Fig. 2 the support 50 includes recess 52 having a cross-sectional contour corresponding to that of the projection 30 of the trimstrip. The support may be rubber and is preferably a rubber gasket adapted to be associated with a window opening such as a window opening in a motor vehicle. The assembly may be bent or flexed or alternatively the support may be pre-formed and the trimstrip bent to conform to the countour of the support and then interengaged therewith. Alternatively the projection 30 can be progressively introduced into the recess 52 of a pre-contoured support and the trimstrip progressively contoured to correspond therewith as interengagement therebetween is achieved. Interengagement between the trimstrip and the support may be achieved by introducing the projection 30 through the entrance of the recess 52 or by introducing the projection longitudinally into the recess 52 and sliding the trimstrip longitudinally relative to the support.
