Abstract

1,182,344. Moistening mechanism in printing machines. AGFA GEVAERT A.G. 19 April, 1967 [20 April, 1966], No. 17963/67. Heading B6C. The messenger roller 9, Fig. 2, of a flat bed rotary lithographic printing machine is mounted to oscillate about the axis of a ductor roller 8 to transmit water from a trough to a distributing roller 4, manual setting means being provided for a range of adjustment between a position in which the roller 9 remains out of contact with the roller 4 and a position in which the rollers 9 and 4 remain in constant contact. The roller 4, which is supported in a moistening/inking mechanism frame is axially reciprocable and also acts as an ink rubbing roller receiving ink from ductor and messenger rollers 6, 7. All the rollers in the frame are gear driven, the drive deriving from the machine in which the frame is incorporated. The swinging drive to the messenger roller 9 derives from a cam and follower arrangement the cam being mounted on the spindle 35 of the roller 4. The follower is mounted at the end of a lever which transmits an oscillatory movement to pivoted arms supporting the roller 9 through a shear pin which is adjusted by the manual setting means to vary the amplitude of the arms thus determine the time of dwell of the roller 9 upon the roller 4.
