Abstract

1,181,889. Cellular products. COMPAGNIE DE SAINT-GOBAIN. 8 Dec., 1967 [12 Dec., 1966], No. 55895/67. Addition to 1,093,238. Headings C3C and C3P. A cellular product, e.g. a support for a floating floor, is prepared by subjecting a cellular synthetic resin product produced by a process comprising heating expanded pearls of synthetic resin to their softening temperature, compressing the softened, expanded pearls to impart the required final product thickness and density and cooling under compression sufficient to maintain the thickness, to compression such that its volume is reduced by at least 10%. The resin product may be subjected to compression at the outlet end of the apparatus that has brought the material to the required thickness and density, e.g. by passing the sheets between one or more pairs of rollers, spaced to produce the desired degree of compression. The preferred synthetic resin is polystyrene.
