Abstract

1,181,688. Reservoir brushes. D. RANNER. 16 May, 1967 [16 May, 1966; 5 April, 1967], No. 22755/67. Heading A4K. In a brush applicator for cosmetic or other paste-like material, a cartridge is releasably secured on a dispensing head 2, containing a metering device, into which the material is extruded by a spring- loaded piston, held in the retracted position by a releasable locking device. A partannular metering chamber 18<SP>1</SP> is swept-out by a a part-annular piston (24) which has a lost-motion connection with the stalk 18 of head 2 by means of pin (24<SP>1</SP>) entering slot 25 in bore 20. Flange 21 has a sectional gap (22) which, in one position, overlies a solid segment (23) of the annulus. On turning head 2 in one direction, piston (24) is withdrawn, from chamber 18<SP>1</SP>, and gap 22 is aligned with it (Figs. 2 and 4, not shown) so that the material is squeezed, by piston 15, into the chamber 18<SP>1</SP>. On turning head 2 in the reverse direction, chamber 181 is first shut by flange 21, and then swept out by piston (24), so that its contents is squeezed through slot 25, into bore 20 (Fig. 3, not shown) and delivered to the brush.
