Abstract

1,179,723. Railway vehicle undercarriages. BRITISH RAILWAYS BOARD. 1 Feb., 1968 [3 Feb., 1967], No. 5371/67. Heading B7L. A railway bogie has wheel-sets 1, 2, Fig. 1, each with a live axle 4 mounted at its ends in axle bearings 5, 6 or 7, 8, the axle bearings 5, 7 and 6, 8 being pivotally interconnected via bolts 13, Fig. 2, on the axle bearing housings and elastic struts 11, 12 whilst the axle bearings 5, 8 and 6, 7 are similarly interconnected by elastic struts 9, 10. As shown in Fig. 2 each strut comprises a tubular member 16 into the ends of which fit, via spindles 20, end fittings 14. Rubber washers 18 are inserted between end fitting 14 and an adjusting nut 21 on the end of the member 16. The end fittings 14 are pivoted to the bolts 13 on the axle bearing housings and the bolts engage in longitudinal slots 24 in side frame members 22, 23. The latter support, via air springs 26, a bolster 25 having a vertical pivot 28 for the vehicle body (not shown). In another form the interconnected axle-sets are connected via springs directly to a vehicle body. The invention may be applied to a bogie interconnecting adjacent ends of two coupled vehicle bodies. In still another form the axle bearings may be interconnected by hydraulic actuators connected by pipes to air springs, as described with reference to Fig. 7 (not shown).
