Abstract
1,179,327. Rolling bearings. INA-NEEDLE BEARINGS Ltd. 23 Feb., 1968 [18 May, 1967], No. 23248/67. Heading F2A. A shaft 7 is supported in a race 1 by cage guided needle rollers 2 which are provided with means for retaining them axially in the race, and by balls 5 which are provided with means for maintaining them axially in position with respect to the shaft and the race. Seals are preferably provided at each end of the race, and the balls may be provided with a cage. In the embodiment illustrated in Fig. 1, the rubber lip seal 10 is protected from wear by the cage of the rollers by incorporating a steel plate in the seal, which together with the shoulder 9 serves to retain the rollers in the race. In the embodiments of Figs. 2 and 3 (not shown) the needles are retained in a shell which is a press fit in the outer race. In Fig. 4 (not shown), the axial position of the rollers is maintained by a steel washer 16 interposed between the seal and the roller cage and a spacer element 15 provided between the balls and the needle cage.
