Abstract
1,179,146. Orientating cylinders forming the cores of metal coils. REYNOLDS METALS CO. 1 Nov., 1967, No. 49578/67. Heading B8S. Cardboard cylinders 11 forming the core of a metal strip coil are contained in hopper 43 adjustably mounted at 44, the cylinders rolling down slopes 47 and 45 and being guided by guides 49 into drum 51 mounted at 52 and rotated by motor 56. The cylinders are aligned whilst travelling down the drum 51, turned through 90 degrees by engagement with fixed arm 62, and fall down shoot 58 to be discharged from the bottom thereof one by one on to the arm 23 of piston 30 carried by rotary conveyer 22, the discharge being assisted by resiliently mounted sleeve 71 and by suction applied at 87. Element 23 feeds the cylinder to be wound with strip and insulation in a coil winding apparatus. Specification 1,072,078 is referred to. Both shoot 58 and receptacle or hopper 43 may be made of transparent material. Shoot 58 includes a level device employing a photocell which stops the rotation of drum 51 when a predetermined level of cylinders in the shoot is exceeded.
