Abstract

1365949 Coiling strand material WESTERN ELECTRIC CO Inc 19 Oct 1971 [23 Oct 1970] 48501/71 Heading D1T [Also in Division B3] An apparatus for coiling strand material and of the kind in which the strand 10, Fig. 1, is first wound around a strand-engagement surface 29 such that as each fresh turn 32 is wound onto the surface 29 the lowermost turn on the surface disengages therefrom in coiled form is characterized in that there are a plurality of force-producing devices 37 spaced around the surface 29 to urge the turns 32 against the surface 29, each of these devices 37 being rotatable about an axis transverse to the surface 29. The surface 29 is the edge of a capstan 31 rotated by a drive source 17. As shown in Fig. 2 the devices 37 are spring-biassed pins 37 chamfered at the end that engages the turns 32.
