Abstract

1,176,914. Measuring liquid level, electrically. W. BOURS [trading as J. G. MERCKENS K.G.]. Sept.30, 1968 [Oct.7, 1967; Feb.10, 1968], No. 46351/68. Heading G1N. A liquid level sensor for use in controlling the water level in steam boilers comprises a tube 1 having vertically spaced connections 4 and 5 for connection to the boiler and an elongate electrode 2 extending vertically upwards through a stuffing box 8 in the bottom end of the tube. The electrode comprises a bundle of stainless steel wires brazed to a stainless steel sleeve at the lower end and tightly inserted within an alumina sheath 3, the upper end of the bundle being chamfered to facilitate insertion. Some or all of an associated electrical circuit may be accommodated in a casing 11 mounted directly on the lower end of the electrode. A cooling jacket 10 is provided between the stuffing box and the casing 11. The tube is fitted with a drain cock 6.
