Abstract

1,174,110. Paper drying apparatus. BLACK CLAWSON CO. 14 March, 1967 [30 March, 1966], No. 12003/67. Heading F4G. A pocket ventilator and drum surface cleaner in a cylinder drying apparatus for paper webs comprises a doctor blade 22, Fig. 2, in contact with an internally heated drum 10 and supported on an elongated angle-section or beam 24, Fig. 6, which together with a plate section 26 defines a passageway 28 into one end of which heated air is passed through a flexible pipe 62 and duct 60. The air passes through a central aperture or apertures 65 in the back side of the beam 24 into a deflector 68 defining a semi-cylindrical passageway 70 open at both ends to direct the air outwardly and laterally towards the open ends of the pocket. An additional aperture or apertures 72 is formed centrally of the passageway 70 and also in the end wall of the passageway 28 opposite to the air inlet to provide a continuous low flow of heated air through the doctor assembly. The ventilator and doctor blade assembly is adapted to be reciprocated longitudinally in contact with the drum by a cam system driven by a motor driven gear reduction unit 40 and the blade 22 may be manually pivoted away from the drum surface by a handle 56.
