Abstract
1,174,171. Electrophotography. RANK XEROX Ltd. 2 Jan., 1967 [6 Jan., 1966], No. 56/67. Heading H1K. An electrophotographic plate comprises a photoconductive layer comprising a chargetransfer complex including an organic polymer and coated thereon a thin layer of an insulating polymer. The insulating layer is preferably a polymer of methylmethacrylate, methylacrylate, n-butylmethacrylate or ethyl silicate but may also be chlorinated rubber, a vinyl polymer, polyolefin, polyvinylidene, polyfluorocarbon, polyamide, polyurethane, polyester, polysulphide or polycarbonate. The insulating layer may be up to 3 Á thick and may be either continuous or a half-tone screen of lines or dots. The photoconductive layer may be a complex of polyvinylcarbazole, formaldehyde polymers, polycarbonate, polystyrene, epoxy resin, phenoxy resin or polyurethane together with 2,4,7 - trinitro - 9 - fluorenone or p-chloranil, other Lewis acids also being specified. The insulating layer may be deposited by glow discharge polymerization and in the case of the half-tone layer, the discharge may be through a metal mesh.
