Abstract
1,173,424. Tankers for liquefied gas. SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ N.V. 19 Sept., 1967 [2 Nov., 1966], No. 49150/66. Headings B7A and B7S. [Also in Division F4] A liquefied gas, e.g. natural gas, storage container comprises a rigid outer shell 2, e.g. the inner hull of a marine tanker, lined internally with a thermally insulating rigid plastic material 3, e.g. foamed polyurethane, and which is itself lined internally with a rigid plastics material 4 of density higher than that of material 3 which is between 2 and 7 1b. per cu. ft. The polyurethane layer 3 is sprayed on to the hull 2, a coating of epoxy resin is applied and the second layer which is also foamed polyurethane is applied by spray. Hessian reinforcing mats may be incorporated in each layer. The epoxy resin is impermeable to ethyl mercaptan which is added to petroleum gases to provide stench.
