Abstract
1,172,989. Treating charge. F.A. MANFREDI. Dec. 7, 1966 (Dec.8, 1965], No. 54852 /66. Heading F1B. Extra air entering at 20 picks-up liquid from a screen 10 on to which the liquid e.g. water is sprayed by a nozzle 23, the resulting air and vapour passing through a non-return valve 43 to a nozzle 6 leading into the intake manifold. The flow passage may be manually adjusted by reversing a member 34 into member 35 to alter the gap between tapered portions 39, 37. The liquid may be water, anti-knock liquid, decarbonizing liquid, or exhaust treating substance. It is fed to the nozzle 23 from a reservoir (25, Fig.1, not shown) by a pump 26 driven by the engine fan belt 4. The reservoir is heated by a heating coil supplied with engine cooling water. A drain pipe 27 returns excess liquid to the reservoir (25).
