A device for lifting and taking to the surface loads lying on the bottom of bodies of water comprises a container 1 defining a chamber 2, means 5 on the container for connecting it to the load to be lifted, a conduit 3 extending from the chamber up to atmosphere, and a conduit 7 from the chamber to a pump 6 for withdrawing water from the chamber and delivering same into an outlet conduit 8.
