Abstract
1,171,408. Electro-plating a ferrous substrate with zinc and tin. TREFILERIES LEON BEKAERT P.V.B.A. June 8, 1967, No.26591/67. Heading C7B. A ferrous substrate, such as Fe or steel wire or steel strip, is (1) electro-plated with Zn, (2) electro-plated with Sn and (3) subjected to cold working (i.e. a treatment by which the ferrous article is deformed to change the cross-section of the article without any substantial loss of metal). The Zn and Sn may be plated from zinc sulphate and tin sulphate baths both containing H 2 SO 4 and being at pH2. The tin bath may also contain cresol sulphonic acid. In the Example, a steel wire is annealed or tempered and then pickled prior to the electro-plating. After electro-plating with Zn and Sn, the wire is cold worked by drawing.
