Abstract
503,008. Electroplating chromium alloys. MOND NICKEL CO., Ltd. Nov. 18, 1938, No. 33617. Convention date, Dec. 1, 1937. [Class 41] [Also in Group II] Chromium-containing alloys to be electroplated are immersed in a solution containing hydrochloric acid to remove oxide film, and while still in the solution are electroplated with nickel from nickel chloride present originally or subsequently added, before immersing in the plating bath in which the metal or alloy is deposited. An alloy containing about 13 per cent chromium, 7 per cent iron, and 79 per cent nickel, freed from grease, is immersed in a solution containing 240 grams of nickel chloride and 36 grams of hydrochloric acid per litre, first as an anode, and then as cathode, nickel being used as the other electrode. The alloy with its protective nickel coating is then transferred to an acid-copper sulphate plating solution and electroplated with copper.
