Photographic light-sensitive material comprises a support carrying a layer containing (i) N-vinyl-carbazole or a substitution product thereof, (ii) an organic halogen compound which splits off halogen during exposure to light and (iii) either (a) a cyanine colour base of the formula: wherein n is 1, 2, 3 or 4, A has the formula B has the formula Q is S, Se, O, or -CH=CH-, L is CH or N, R is H or CN, R<SP>1</SP> is H, alkyl, aralkyl or aryl and R<SP>1</SP> is H, alkyl, aralkyl or aryl or two adjacent R" represent a condensed aromatic or heterocyclic ring; or (b) a merocyanine colour base of the formula;- wherein n is 1, 2, 3 or 4, P completes a heterocyclic 5-or 6- membered ring, R is alkyl or aralkyl and X is S, O or N-CH 3 ; or (c) a styryl colour base of the formula:- wherein n is 1, 2, 3 or 4, L<SP>1</SP> is CR<SP>111</SP> or N where R<SP>111</SP> is H or CN, R and R<SP>1</SP> are each H, alkyl or aralkyl and B has one of the formula shown under (a) above wherein Q is S, Se, O, N or -CH=CH- and R<SP>11</SP> is H, alkyl or aralkyl or two adjacent R<SP>11</SP> represent a condensed aromatic or heterocyclic ring. The layer may also contain binders, wetting agents and ferrocene. On imagewise exposure to light, a colour change and a change in solubility occurs in the exposed areas and the image is fixed by washing off the unexposed areas with water or an organic solvent. Binding agents soluble in organic solvents and preferably also in water, such as polyvinylpyrrolidone, poly- N-methyl-N-vinyl-acetamide, maleic arhydride/ styrene copolymer or the reaction product of a phenolaldehyde resin and chloracetic acid, may be used and after exposure and fixing by washing with water or an organic solvent, reproductions are obtained which may be used as offset printing plates if a hydrophilic support was used or if, after fixing, the background surface is treated to make it hydrophilic. Zinc supports can be etched after fixing. Supports of paper, waterproofed paper, glass, aluminium or film may also be used. Organic halogen compounds specified are tetrabromomethane, tetraiodomethane, pentabromoethane, iodoform, tribromomethyl phenyl sulphone, #, #, #-tribromoacetophenone and its 3-nitro- and 2:5-dimethylsubstitution products, tetrabromo-pyrrole, tetraiodopyrrole, tetraiodothiophene, tetrabromothiophene and mixtures thereof. The components of the light-sensitive layer except for the organic halogen compound may be coated and the latter incorporated at a later stage by imbibition from solution or from the vapour state.
