[Also in Division F2] A hollow main driving shaft, journalled in the oil-tight casing of a sewing machine, has cam means for reciprocating and oscillating a looper-carrying shaft projecting through the casing, and also has drive means for moving a feed dog-carrying shaft, projecting through the casing, in a closed path, while an oil pump, mounted within the casing and driven from said shaft, conveys'oil from a reservoir within the casing to the interior of said shaft for lubricating the looper and feed dog drive means. The machine, which is intended for closing filled bags, has a casing of inverted U-shape, the arms of which abut a neoprene diaphragm 20 apertured for the passage of curved needle and presser bars 15 and 17 respectively. Needle bar 15 carrying a nedle 23 and presser bar 17 carrying a presser foot 29 are journalled on a horizontal, rotatable hollow shaft 14. A leaf spring 24, journalled on a shaft 26, abuts bar 17 and an adjustable stud 28 for biasing presser foot 29 towards a throat plate 30a. Shaft 26 has a crank arm 26a coupled to arm 17 by pin and slot connection 17b, and may be turned by an external handle for raising the presser foot. A hollow vertical shaft 11, journalled in bearings 12, 12a and driven by a pulley 13, carries an eccentric 34 coupled by a pitman 35 to needle bar 15 for oscillating the latter. An eccentric 36, fired obliquely to shaft 11, has a strap 37 carrying a radial pin 38 slidable in one arm of. a right angled link 39, the other arm of which is pivoted at 40 to a collar 41 fixed to the upper end of a shaft 31 which passes through a bearing 31c and carries at its lower and exposed end a looper 32. The arrangement is such that shaft 31 is reciprocated and oscillated for providing looper 32 with loop-seizing and needle-avoiding movements. Access to the looper is provided by a hinged door 61. An eccentric 48 on shaft 11 is coupled by a pitman 49 and linkage 50, 56, 57 to a shaft 53 carrying a feed dog 30. Shaft 53, which is perpendicular to the throat plate 30a, is slidable in one arm 51a of a body, the other arm 51 of which, disposed at right angles to arm 51a and parallel to throat plate 30a in the line of sewing, is slidable on a fixed pin 52. The lower end of shaft 11 has an eccentric portion 11b coupled by a pitman 54 to link 57. The arrangement is such that the eccentrics 48 and 11b impart transverse and axial movements respectively to shaft 53. A bar K, carrying a thread chain cutter, is coupled for reciprocation by a linkage M to pitman 49. An eccentric 47 on shaft 11 is coupled by a pitman 45 and linkage 44 to the plunger 42b of a pump 42 which draws oil via a duct a from a pump S, and delivers the oil via a duct d to a chamber e which communicates via a passage e' with the interior of shaft 14, and via passages g and h with the interior of shaft 11. Shafts 11 and 14 are formed with radial ducts for lubricating the surfaces in rotary contact therewith. The interior of the casing communicates with the atmosphere via a porous filter F and an aperture O provided in a screwed plug 60.
