Abstract

1,170,173. Liquefied gas storage tanks. WHESSOE Ltd. 12 July, 1968 [25 July, 1967], No. 34029/67. Heading F4P. The generally cylindrical vertical wall and the flat base 8, Fig. 3, of an inner cold liquefied gas storage tank 5 constructed of low-temperature resistant material are spaced from the wall and base of an outer tank by heat insulation material 6, 9 whereby the outer tank is maintained at ambient temperature and the wall of the inner tank 5 presents in plan view, Fig. 2, a succession of outwardly convex arcuate portions joined together by portions of contracurvature engaged by members 7 which transfer the hydraulic load on the inner tank wall to the outer tank wall. The periphery of the base 8 is spaced inwardly of the wall of tank 5 and is sealed by one or more spaced flexible skins 10 between which is a compressed gas of lower boiling point than the stored gas. The inner tank is of aluminium and the outer tank of conventional steel.
