Abstract

1,168,978. Polyamide-imides. SOC. RHODIACETA. 28 Oct., 1966 [29 Oct., 1965; 6 July, 1966], No. 48573/66. Heading C3R. Polyamide-imides are prepared by reacting equimolar amounts of a diisocyanate and a tricarboxylic acid monoanhydride (or the corresponding tri-acid) in the presence of an inert polar solvent. In a modification a higher polyisocyanate is also used, the proportion of acid being adjusted to retain a proportion of one-half mole of acid per isocyanate group. Numerous solvents are specified, those used in specific examples being: acids, trimellitic and diphenyl ether - 3,4,4<SP>1 </SP>- tricarboxylic acid monoanhydrides; isocyanates, dodecamethylene and 4,4<SP>1 </SP>- diphenyl - ether or - methane diisocyanates and triphenyl-methane or -thiophosphate 4,4<SP>1</SP>,4<SP>11</SP> triisocyanates; solvents N-methyl-2- pyrrolidone or N,N-dimethyl acetamide. The products are obtained as solutions which may be used as a varnish or to form films or fibres or may be precipitated for use as moulding powders. Reference is made to Specification 1,009,956.
