Abstract
1,168,042. Detecting yarn breakage and reducing subsequent yarn wastage. G. ZEGNA and G. ZEGNA. 21 May, 1968 [10 Nov., 1967], No. 24207/68. Heading DID. In a spinning machine of the kind having a yarn drawing region, a yarn break detector is arranged in or following the drawing region 3 and on breakage occuring it initiates operation of an electrically controlled means which causes breakage of the yarn ahead of the drawing region to prevent unnecessary unwinding from the supply spool. A pivoted feeler 7 rotates under its own weight when a break occurs to complete an electrical circuit which stops the carriage 14 moving the feeler and a suction device 11 along the machine. The yarn is broken before the drawing region either by cutting means, or by displacing the leading rollers in the drawing region or by stopping rotation of the supply spool 1. The latter is effected by an electromagnetic device 18 which moves a lever 20 when actuated on rotational movement of feeler 7. The lever 20 moves a latch device to release a lock member for movement into locking engagement with the spool.
