Abstract

1,166,037. Fuses. J. R. McCAUGHNA. 6 Oct., 1967 [11 Oct., 1966], No. 45432/66. Heading H2G. An electric cartridge fuse comprises a fuse element constituted by a thin silver ribbon 11 reinforced by a tape or strip 10 of polyimide plastics material. The polyimide tape 10 is said to have no effect on the characteristics of the fuse ribbon. A number of parallel ribbons of silver may be provided, being deposited chemically or adhesive or heat-bonded to the polyimide strip, or may be partially embedded therein. The fuse element is wound on a ceramic core 12 and the cartridge may be filled with arc-extinguishing silica sand.
